All international students who are admitted into the Stanford Summer Session program and require a visa must apply for an F-1 visa.
Step 1: Request an I-20
The first step in the visa application process is obtaining a Stanford-sponsored I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant F-1 Student Status). Students will be able to request an I-20 from Stanford's Bechtel International Center once they receive a Stanford ID number and create SUNet ID (username) and password.
Step 2: Pay SEVIS Fee and Complete DS-160
After you obtain your I-20, you will need to pay the SEVIS fee (Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) SEVIS I-901) and complete the DS-160 online application. Once the application has been completed and all fees have been paid, you may move on to schedule an F-1 visa appointment at your local US Embassy or Consulate.
Step 3: Visa Interview Appointment
At your visa appointment, you must present the following documents:
- Stanford sponsored I-20
- I-901 SEVIS Fee Receipt
- Stanford Summer Session Admission Letter
- Proof of Funding Document
- Valid Passport
- 2 Passport-Size Photos
For assistance with general questions about student visas, you should consult the U.S. Department of State Visas website. There you will find helpful information about the F-1 Student Visa, including locations of U.S. Embassies and Consulates, timelines for scheduling interviews, details about visa processing, and more.
Please note that certain countries may be experiencing possible delays in visa processing.
Please allow ample time for this process as students are responsible for acquiring their visa before the start of the program.
