What happens if my roommate tests positive for COVID-19?

Students living on campus who test positive for COVID will isolate in their assigned room for 5 to 10 days. They will use a bathroom specifically designated for sick-student use and may go outside, taking care to wear a mask and socially distance as best they can around others.

If you are a roommate of a COVID-positive student and have tested negative, you may continue to navigate campus as usual, taking care to wear a mask around others given their proximity to a COVID-positive individual.

If you have a critical health condition and have been instructed by your personal medical care team not to share a living space with a COVID-positive individual, you will need to submit documentation in advance of arrival with Stanford’s Office of Accessible Education (OAE). Only students with a pre-approved exemption by OAE will be eligible for temporary reassignment during the time in which their roommate is COVID-positive
